Yoga on the Beach – Coco Cay

Whenever I actually settle myself down enough to take a yoga class I love it.  It just doesn't happen very often.  My recent weekend cruise on Royal Caribbean offered a fantastic opportunity I'm so happy I took advantage of. Most of the cruise lines schedule group fitness classes;  yoga, pilates and spinning are the usual offerings.  There is usually an extra charge for these, but at $10 or $12 per class it's really no more than a class at home.  I've taken advantage of these on previous cruises and am always pleasantly surprised by both the intensity of the class and the knowledge of the instructor.  This class was no exception.  Jarryd, in addition to having [...]

High On Ketchikan

"There has got to be a way down", I thought to myself as I stood on a platform high in the treetops.  Looking around, all I could see was the swinging log in front of me.  Everyone in front of me had traversed the log without incident, but I knew as soon as I stepped out onto it the cable above to which I was strapped would snap and I would fall to my death.  The people behind me had no such fears and were all urging me to "get going already!"  The last time I'd felt such paralyzing fear was several years ago when I'd gone sky-diving to impress a boy.  That 'boy' is now [...]

Alaska Running Cruise

By |2010-06-23T06:00:32+00:00June 23rd, 2010|Cruises, marathon, Running|

A group of our friends is always up for any marathon adventure and, not wanting to disappoint, my co-director Natalie and I brainstormed and came up with a vacation marathon idea. In May of this year a group of 21 of us made our way to Seattle to board the Carnival Spirit cruise ship to Alaska. During our days at sea Nat and I kept the group amused with a plethora of activities. We managed to fit in mini-golf tournament, stretching class, trivia games and more among the buffets. We kept a tally of who participated in what as there were fabulous prizes to be given away to the most active of the bunch. Our days [...]

Carnival Cruise February 2009

By |2009-04-28T23:04:40+00:00April 28th, 2009|Beaches, Cruises, Food and Drink, Girlfriend Getaways|

So one of the requirements for my CLIA certification is to go on cruises...tough work, I know!  In February I sailed on the Carnival Sensation out of Port Canaveral, Florida.  We had a group of 10 people, ranging in age from 4 to 49.  I personally think cruises are a great vacation experience for groups of people.  There's so much diverse activity going on on the ship every day and night, most likely there's something for everyone. So, my friend Pam and I arrived in Orlando on a Wednesday;  the day before the cruise departed.  I'd recommend this for a couple of reasons:  1)  Lots less stress if you're where you need to be the day [...]
