Most of the airlines now have at least some of their planes equipped with WiFi. For those of us who can't stand to be out of touch, or just want to while away the in-flight hours, here is the latest on who has what and for how much $$. Shopping

By |2010-01-16T17:12:43+00:00January 16th, 2010|Shopping|

For me, it’s all about the shopping. The knit camel gloves from Mongolia.  The green loafers from Paris.  The leather handbag and chic eyeglass frames from Florence.  The pearl necklace from Beijing.  The argan oil from Morocco.  The black leather jacket from Buenos Aires.  The ceramic house numbers from Sydney.  The table runner from a small village in the Andes mountains.  The cowboy boots from Oklahoma City.  These items and more bring my exotic travels into my everyday life. These are more than just ‘things’ though.  Everyday outside my yurt in Mongolia the local women would congregate with their hand-crafted goods.  We didn’t speak the same language in words, but women selling their wares and women [...]

New Orleans April 2009

By |2009-04-29T15:07:13+00:00April 29th, 2009|Girlfriend Getaways, Louisiana, New Orleans, Shopping|

New Orleans  April 2009 Ah, a girl's weekend in New Orleans!  I've done a few of these over the years, and I never get tired of it.  New Orleans is a crazy place;  sometimes crazier than others, but always interesting.  I've been there with boyfriends, girlfriends, marathon runners, and had a fantastic time every time. This weekend was girl's only.  5 of us for some food and fun.  Unfortunately, I got a bit left behind and arrived a day late...not mentioning any particular airline's name, but NEVER FLY THROUGH NEWARK!!  I managed to get myself there by noon on Saturday however, and quickly made up for lost time.  After a bonus celebrity sighting, I met Lori [...]

Buffalo April 2009

By |2009-04-28T23:06:12+00:00April 28th, 2009|Airports, Buffalo, Canada, Food and Drink, New York|

It's a crime to visit or even pass through Buffalo, NY without a stop at the Anchor Bar;  home of the original Buffalo wings.  And they are better here than anywhere.  On a recent trip to Ontario, I flew into Buffalo and my sister, Caroline, picked me up.  We headed immediately to the Anchor Bar.  They weren't even open yet...we had to wait 5 minutes.  When they did open, they filled up quickly. Embarrassing as it was, we had to order both a white pizza and 50 wings, medium.  Not all for us!  We managed half of the pizza and 5 wings apiece, all the while explaining to the other lunch patrons that we were bringing [...]

Carnival Cruise February 2009

By |2009-04-28T23:04:40+00:00April 28th, 2009|Beaches, Cruises, Food and Drink, Girlfriend Getaways|

So one of the requirements for my CLIA certification is to go on cruises...tough work, I know!  In February I sailed on the Carnival Sensation out of Port Canaveral, Florida.  We had a group of 10 people, ranging in age from 4 to 49.  I personally think cruises are a great vacation experience for groups of people.  There's so much diverse activity going on on the ship every day and night, most likely there's something for everyone. So, my friend Pam and I arrived in Orlando on a Wednesday;  the day before the cruise departed.  I'd recommend this for a couple of reasons:  1)  Lots less stress if you're where you need to be the day [...]

LA in December

By |2009-04-21T00:14:14+00:00April 21st, 2009|Food and Drink, Girlfriend Getaways, L.A., Markets, Shopping|

It had been a while since I'd been to the Los Angeles area, so my friend Charlyn and I decided to check out the Left Coast for a little shopping and celebrity watching. We arrived Friday noonish for a long weekend.  Great 70 degree weather...a little incongruous while hearing Christmas carols and seeing Christmas trees for sale on the street corners, but better than the 30 degree weather at home.  We rented our car from Hertz (long line, but nice car) and headed to our hotel for the weekend.  The Hollywood Celebrity Hotel is in a great location;  about a block away from Mann's Chinese Theatre and at the base of the Hollywood Hills.  The hotel [...]
